Taro
A root vegetable, that is peeled and then sliced into soups, salads and curries. It has white flesh and a crisp texture. It must be well cooked as undercooked taro can cause irritation to the throat and mouth. Deep peel as these toxins are most present in, and directly under the skin. Also known as: woo tau, yu (Chinese), sato-imo (Japanese), phueak (Thai), khoai mon (Vietnamese).
