Peanuts
Essential to Oriental cuisine, used in dishes such as satay, kung-po chicken and pad Thai. They were introduced into China around the same time as the sweet potato, from South America. Peanuts are also the ingredient that groundnut oil is made from, an essential ingredient in Oriental cooking due to its high smoking point, and light taste.
