Durian

Durian

Known as 'the King of fruits'. Famous for its overly pungent aroma when ripe, its flesh is sweet and has the texture of rich smooth custard, and the flavour has been likened to a mix of banana, mango, pineapple, pawpaw and vanilla. It is roughly the size of a football that comes to a point at one end and its skin has a spined texture. It is a dull yellowy green in colour. When ripe it splits to reveal the fruit along its 'seamline'. In Asian it is seen as a 'hot' food, so should be followed by a 'cool' one such as mangosteens.
